STRESS MANAGEMENT AND ANXIETY

Stress affects different people in different ways, and everyone has different ways of dealing with it. A certain amount of stress and anxiety is normal at work as well as at home. However, persistent, excessive stress that interferes with everyday functioning can lead to chronic stress which can cause long term anxiety – possibly even the development of anxiety disorders.

In today’s work environment stress in the second most commonly reported condition in self-reported work related illnesses and it has been reported that an estimated 9.9 million working days in 2014/2015 were lost due to work-related stress, depression and anxiety.

Anxiety is usual when a situation is particularly stressful. Our minds assess the environment so we can protect ourselves. We have an instinctive ‘fight or flight’ mechanism that kicks in during these situations. However, some people can feel anxious when the stressful situation no longer exists. When you are anxious you feel fearful and tense and often there are physical symptoms too.  This form of anxiety is abnormal and it is important to get help.

Psychological symptoms can include everything from feelings of overwhelming panic, difficulties concentrating to irrational thoughts.

Physical symptoms can also occur as a result of the psychological symptoms such as digestive problems, headaches, insomnia and tiredness.

The good news is that hypnotherapy can help with stress management! Your anxiety can be dealt with and managed; you weren’t born with anxiety so therefore it needn’t be a controlling part of your life. You can learn to manage it and take back control. Along with the hypnotherapy treatment you may wish learn self -hypnosis techniques for self-management, tools that can re-inforce what we work on in sessions.

SESSION INFORMATION

At the initial appointment an in-depth case history is taken to ensure that  we understand your background, issues to be addressed and what you wish to achieve through hypnotherapy. This enables the sessions to be suitably tailored to your individual needs.

Subsequent sessions are 60 minutes and are normally part of a programme. The number of sessions required depends on the issues that are addressed and on your goals.
